WHAT TYPE OF COLLAGEN IS BEST
First, let’s start with what is Collagen? Collagen is basically the glue that holds your ligaments, joints, and bones together. Not only can it help to relieve your back pain, but it can also help to repair & strengthen your back. Collagen is composed of fibrous structural proteins and found in your tendons, ligaments, bone, cartilage, and skin.
There are different types of collagen. I’m going to focus on Type 2 Collagen. It was type 2 that helped me heal a couple of fractures to the vertebrae in my spine. It’s suitable for people with any kind of back pain. It also helps people who are suffering from Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis & Osteoporosis.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COLLAGEN?
Collagen is composed of individual amino acids. These acids are Glycine, Proline, Hydroxyproline, and Arginine. In nature, they’re found in animal tissue, especially in the bones and connective tissue. Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body.
Collagen has so many benefits. I’ll list 10 of them.
1. Treats Arthritic Conditions
2. Builds Muscle & Repairs Tissue
3. Helps To Relieve Joint Pain
4. Contributes To Boost Muscle Mass
5. Helps To Prevent Bone Loss
3. Boosts Brain Health
6. Protects Your Heart
7. Improves Gut Health
8. Improves Skin Quality
9. Improves Liver Function
10. Promotes Deeper Sleep
Collagen comes from different sources. Depending on what health issues you have, it’s essential to choose the right type of collagen. For me, Collagen Type 2 (Chicken) worked best for my back pain. That doesn’t mean it will work best for you. Keep reading to find out what type of collagen will help your kind of back pain. Maybe type 1 & 3 collagen will also help you.
Collagen can be made from the following 5.
5. Hydrolyzed Collagen
Chicken Collagen: (Type 2) Collagen made from chicken fights inflammation & helps to rebuild cartilage. It also helps to reduce joint & arthritic pain. Collagen made from chickens also helps your gut, immune system & skin.
Bovine Collagen: (Type 1 & 3) Collagen from bovine helps to treat Osteoarthritis, reduces pain, improves gut health, builds muscle, repairs tissue, promotes deeper sleep & enhances skin quality.
Fish Collagen: (Type 1) Collagen from Fish helps with Anti-aging, bone healing, bone regeneration, wound healing, increased protein intake & antibacterial ability.
Egg Collagen: (Types 1, 3, 4, & 10) Collagen from eggs helps your joints, connective tissues, decreases pain, decreases wrinkles, increases skin quality, increases range of motion, and improves digestion.
Hydrolyzed Collagen: (type 2) Hydrolyzed Collagen or Collagen Peptides are more or less the same thing. It helps boost muscle mass, supports gut health, reduces joint pain, improves hair & skin health, preserves bone density, and enhances heart health.
If you’re taking type 1 & 3 collagen, wait at least a couple of hours before taking type 2. If you take them all together, they won’t absorb as well.
Don’t take any other type of medication, vitamins, or herbs 2 hours before or after taking collagen. If you’re on medication of any kind, check with your doctor first to make sure it won’t interfere with the effectiveness of your medication.
WHAT IS THE BEST COLLAGEN SUPPLEMENT?
In my opinion, Neocell is the best brand of collagen to buy. My main reason is, it’s the only brand that has worked for me. Believe me, I’ve wasted a lot of money trying other brands. That’s just me though, other brands besides Neocell might work well for you.
My other reason for promoting Neocell is, all their collagen products are produced from pharmaceutical grade bovine collagen from grass-fed, free-range cows that are hormone and antibiotic-free. Neocell is also free from gluten, wheat, soy, lactose, starch, corn, yeast, and artificial flavors.
Collagen type 2 makes up 50-60% of the protein in the body’s cartilage and 85-90 % in articular cartilage.
The bones, muscles & tendons in your back contain collagen. Not having enough collagen to keep those parts healthy & strong, could be what’s causing your back pain.
You can purchase Collagen from the stores below. Please check all 4 stores as the prices could be very different. One of them might be having a sale.
At the time I wrote this article, Herbs Pro sold it for the lowest price. It was $22.99 for a 30 day supply.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TAKE COLLAGEN?
TIME: The best time to take collagen is at bedtime on an empty stomach. If you can’t take it at bedtime, take it two hours after or before you eat. For best results, don’t take any other medication, vitamins, or minerals during those 2 hours.
DOSAGE: This is another one of those trial & error things. When I first started, I started with 4 capsules of Neocell Collagen Type 2. The most you should take is 6. Always look at the bottle to see what they recommend. My advice is to go with the lowest dosage. If you don’t see the results you want within a month, then increase it.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK: This isn’t one of those supplements that you can take for a week and see amazing results. To heal the vertebrae in my spine took about 6 months.
Like I always recommend, take it for a month. If you don’t see any results, then you know that it probably won’t work for you. Collagen is a supplement that takes a while before you see results. If you notice a difference after a month, try it a second month.
Don’t forget what works for most people might not work for you. The whole purpose of this website is to find something that will work for you.
COLLAGEN SIDE EFFECTS
Collagen is safe for most people. Most side effects of collagen are due to allergies.
Make sure you check the label to see what the ingredients are. If you’re allergic to fish, make sure the collagen you buy isn’t made from fish.
Other side effects are the feeling of being full, heartburn, or a bad taste in the mouth. There have only been a few cases of people reporting this.
Always check with your doctor if you are on medication to make sure collagen won’t interfere with its effectiveness.
